I learned in this activity the benefits of using a “Deep Web”
database versus an “Open Web” database. When comparing the (Gale Virtual
Reference Library) to (Wikipedia) I found (G.V.R.L.) to be a more refined
source for research. I appreciated the citing information being included in the
page, and trusted the information provided more than I did with Wikipedia. I
found both databases easy to use; however Wikipedia was much broader, and not
as easy to narrow the search parameters.
I will be using the Gale Virtual Reference Library for my
research projects after making this comparison. I will still use Wikipedia as
an alternate source. This was a great activity on learning research protocol,
and I will be working to refine the skills obtained from the project.
